[He senses him before he sees him, and he sees him a few moments later, turning the corner, curious. Whoever it is, it's not someone he knows, but the Force is strong, and pushing him, nudging him. It's a curious thing, he thinks.

He sees the young man and his eyebrows furrow. It's definitely not a man he knows, not with the high collar and the clothes. But he carries himself with purpose, and...]

Hello.

[That's what he's getting right now. That and a polite Padawan bow]

[ blue eyes lift, meeting obi-wan's own, and for a moment, he's stunned silent. this is his former teacher; he'll always know his particular signature in the force. but this is obi-wan as he must have been decades before, as a youth. he must be luke's age, if not younger.

senses recovered, he mentally shakes himself, dipping immediately into a bow of his own. when he straightens again, he's smiling a little helplessly. this is impossible, but who is he to say what the force is capable of? and he's so happy to see him again. ]

Obi-Wan. It is you, isn't it? How-- [ he steps forward, booted feet nearly silent. ] How is this possible?

[He takes a moment, because it seems like everyone - everyone knows who he is. But this is different.]

I'm sorry, we haven't met yet, in my timeline. Time here runs differently.

[He thinks, for a moment, someone who knows him, maybe who knows Anakin. A young knight, he thinks. Someone strong in the Force. He manages the corners of a smile, the barest hings of one.]

Time-- [ he cuts himself off, thinks. it's true that there's something a little different about obi-wan's presence. the obi-wan he'd known had a serenity to him that had been the result of long, hard years. this one-- this one is exactly as young as he appears to be.

he breathes a brief, stunned laugh, passing his good hand over his face and trying to ignore the way it trembles. ]

Suns. Well, that explains some things, anyway.

[ he dips his head briefly in an apologetic gesture. ] I'm sorry, I-- My name is Luke. Luke Skywalker. You were my--will be my teacher.

Skywalker-

[Why does he end up teaching all these Skywalkers, and where did this one come from? But he stops himself, like a bludgeon hits him between the eyes. Instead he makes a sound like a laugh.]

Well, was I any good?

[He needs to get word to Anakin.]

[ a nod, mouth quirking faintly, not quite a smile. ] I think you know my father. He's-- here, isn't he? [ anakin skywalker is here. like obi-wan, he feels different, and a part of luke is-- frightened, maybe. he's wanted to know his father all his life, and he'd had him for a few bittersweet moments. it hadn't been enough time to learn anything about him, and to have him here--

--but before all that, before the empire and palpatine.. will he even want to speak to a son that, to him, hasn't even been born?

he takes a steadying breath, letting the worries drop away. obi-wan's question even prompts a swift, still-boyish grin. ]

I suppose you must have been, given that I'm still alive.

[A pause, a moment of consideration. Well, things could be more complicated. They could.]

I do, in fact, know the man who will be your father, one day.

[Because if he can sense that, tell it, there's no point in lying and scurrying and hiding. He would find out anyway, how long could Anakin be hidden?]

Congratulations, then.

[Another pause]

Are you friends with a certain smuggler by the name of Han Solo?

[ despite himself, the mention of han's name earns a slightly pained, amused wince. ]

I am, yes. I hope he hasn't been too terribly-- [ he trails off, making a helpless, vague gesture with his left hand. han-like is the best word for the smuggler, really. ] Well. He's Han. He's more reliable than he seems, I promise.

[A grin, then, because oh, boy. Are you in "trouble," Skywalker.]

He certainly wins awards for persistence.

[DRY. DRIER. DRYEST]

You realize he's now your responsibility, preferably before Master Vos tries to stab him.

[Again.]

I'll do my solemn best to keep him out of trouble. No promises, though.

[ he's a smuggler, obi-wan!!! han does what he wants okok. ........ luke just kind of puppy-dog eyes at him until han caves.

a huff, then. ]

--He's been making smart remarks about Jedi again, hasn't he?

Mostly about how I owe him money.

Although he seems to have calmed down about that.

[He's not huffing, though]

Is it your lightsaber, then, that he gave to me?

[ .. oh, that's true, isn't it? it's been long enough that he'd nearly forgotten about that. ]

.. Well. Not yet you don't, anyway. [ HA.....

a blink, his head tilting faintly at the question. he shifts, hand lowering to indicate the lightsaber hanging against his outer thigh. ] Not mine. And I lost my first one at-- [ a pause, brows drawing together. ] But then, Han may be from a different point in time, as well, so-- I couldn't say unless I saw it.

Quinlan has it.

[He had hoped that Luke would know of Quinlan, but then, it seems like that's something that becomes somewhat of a rarity, considering even his own padawan (first padawan?) had not known of Quinlan Vos.]

I'll take you to meet him.

[And another pause.]

Your father is here, but he's....even younger than I am.

[ another dip of his head, expression thoughtful, edging on hope. ] --A Jedi master? I-- I'd be very grateful to meet him, thank you. I'm afraid I don't know much about the Order. My instruction was a little.. unconventional.

[ at the mention of anakin again, he pauses, fingers curling, mouth pressing thin. younger than obi-wan-- he must not be much more than a teenager, then. and if that's so.. ]

It may be best to delay introductions a while, then. I wouldn't want to.. distress him.

You don't know-

[Okay, focus]

He'll want to meet you. He'll have things he'll want to discuss with you. Quinlan, I mean. Anakin...we won't be able to wait long, you realize.

I imagine he will, given our apparent points in the timeline.

[ .. no, they certainly won't be able to wait more than a day or two, at best. it's certain that anakin already knows he's there, just as he's aware of his father. ]

I think it might be best for you to speak to him first. [ his mouth quirks, rueful and a little sad despite himself. ] He may need-- time. Or he may choose not to speak to me at all. Either way, I wouldn't blame him. It's a little much to put on someone.

[He pats Luke on the back - it's friendly, certainly warmer than most of his interactions with Luke as an older Jedi.]

I will. The next time I train with him.

[Which should be today.]

[ the gesture startles him a little, leaving him blinking at the other man until a warm smile returns to his face. ]

You certainly aren't what I remember. [ he makes a gesture to the rest of the ship, then, brows arching. ] --I don't suppose you can fill me in on how we're all here, can you?

[And he just shakes his head]

You certainly like the easy questions. You could have also gone with how old is Master Yoda, precisely, or perhaps with the age-old how many levels deep can you go into Coruscant before you emerge on the other side.

[These are not questions people actually ask.]

[ he laughs, shaking his head. ] Master Yoda was old enough to pretend to be senile when it suited him, which is probably far more important than a number.

--He never did think much of my need to know things. Serenity still isn't something that I do very well.

[Oh my god why is he stuck with all these smartass young Jedi who make him feel old when he is still a padawan, he doesn't know. But it doesn't matter because he's smirking.]

My own Master used to tell me something similar. I think we all only improve when Master Yoda shakes his head and tells us how disappointed he is.

[It's some kind of Jedi rite-of-passage.]

I'll try and answer, but I don't have many of them. And there isn't any time here for Serenity, anyway.

Apparently, I have a thicker skull than most, then. It took telling me several times-- [ and losing his hand. ] --for me to learn.

[ his head dips in another nod, tapping prosthetic fingers against his outer thigh thoughtfully. ]

I'll be grateful for any information you have, actually. Though I've heard there's a network. I should probably check that, too.
