[lucky for merry he's not turned into a half-dead lunatic with a raging ring obsession (quite yet). lucky also he isn't melkor.

the fact that merry doesn't sound like a child surprises him, though it doesn't show. some of that initial hostility does become curiosity after a short moment. there's a brief thought that this one might know what's going on, where they are, but. judging by the button mashing, probably not.]

[ this isn't actually a situation he's all that unused to- the somewhat disapproving looks from exceptionally tall wizards. he takes this to mean one of two things: one, he is perpetually doing something that warrants disapproval, or two, wizards are prone to giving such looks in general.
