[ Eugene's mind is racing through the possibilities. Did he launch himself into a game while falling? No, that's impossible because there were no games around that he could get to. Is this more Curdun Cay shit? N o p e. Not enough concrete and Augustine's smarmy voice telling him to call up demons and angels for other Conduits to beat the shit out of.

He's run out of ideas and this man in armor isn't helping matters, either. It doesn't give him a single clue as to what's going on, save for that he's quite possibly gone insane.

...all things considered, this isn't all that unimaginable. The kid has spent the last six years in hell, so. ]

[ Nice as the kid is, he also has a snarky streak a mile wide. ]

[He's not really expecting the sudden snappishness and it catches Cullen off guard for a moment. Some of the others would probably be better at social situations like this than he is, but Cullen wants to help, and if that means taking attitude from some kid, then... well, so be it.]

You're on board a ship. [A pause.] A sky ship. It travels between stars.

[A pause, and then a little gentler:] My name is Cullen. I can help you, if you let me.

[ And the answer throws Eugene off guard, so they're even. He stares at Cullen for a moment, mouth opening to give another snarky answer, but nothing comes to mind. And if this guy really is trying to help, he'd better not be too rude.

It's also possible this guy is nuts, and being rude won't help there, either.

So he goes for calm disbelief. ]

Eugene. [ A pause and he finally finds something to say that isn't a stuttered out mess like his name almost was. ]

I was just under water, encased in concrete. How'd I get on a spaceship?


[ He can't think of a single situation where this is possible. ]

I... don't know what concrete is.

[But this kid seems to understand the grasp of a spaceship so that's good news. Cullen rubs awkwardly at the back of his neck, glancing down the hall as if to see if there's anyone more qualified for dealing with hysterical kids than he is. No? Okay.]

But, to answer your question: you were transported here by the ship itself. It... takes people from different worlds, different realities, and brings them all here. For what purpose, I don't know. However, we have food and water, and we are able to survive.

[ Eugene listens, frowning some. None of this makes sense to him at all. ]

I've been kidnapped by a sentient spaceship?

[ It sounds even weirder when he says it. ]

How do I get out of here? I have to get home. M-my friends need my help.

I know the feeling.

[He smiles wryly. The world needs his help, so you're just gonna have to get in line, Eugene.]

But as far as I know, you can't choose when you'll return. There are guides saying that time back home is frozen while you're here, so- they'll be alright for now.

Do you know anyone that returned home that can confirm whether time's holding still?

[ It's official. He believes Cullen. To a point. He did wake up in some weird pod with a tube down his throat, for starters. It's the weirdest thing he's ever had happen to him. Not the worst, that spot's owned by that time bullies at school pushed him too far and his powers activated. That had been nothing short of a nightmarish disaster. ]

And what am I supposed to do while I wait until I'm sent back?

[ He's not too happy with being trapped somewhere again. ]

It's what I've been told. I don't know the extent of it.

[But he can sympathize with wanting to know, at least.]

The best answer I can think is simply survival. There are plenty of others here in the same situation. Some of them can be allies, some of them can teach things. There's different jobs to do if you'd like to take on responsibility, there are libraries and other kinds of recreational areas.
