No. [The word is soft but sure. Krem's father loved him. He knew, and he loved him. It's always a little strange, because Cole's family was the first 'experience' Compassion had with families. It has since become clear that Cole's experience was not standard. Maybe he should clarify, so Krem doesn't make the mistake too.] Cole's father told him to die like a man.

[Krem is shaken, unnerved, but he tries not to show it. He's a good soldier, and a good leader, and so he just takes Cole's foot off of his lap and reaches out to ruffle that fluffy hair again.]

Alright, Spooky. That's good for now. Argued those laces right into submission, I did. Don't forget about the nug ears, eh?

[He chokes down what he's feeling, but he knows he'll need a drink to yet to sleep tonight.]

[Cole stands on his own two feet, looking down at his newly tied laces. They do indeed appear to be more cooperative now.]

[He knows he must have said something wrong but he doesn't know what. He is learning to back off at least when he has made things worse. Unfortunately he genuinely lacks the ability to understand the whys.]
